Middleton Cheney in Northamptonshire
Middleton Cheney is the largest village in South Northamptonshire (Northants) and is situated between Banbury, Oxfordshire and Brackley. Middleton Cheney is only a couple of miles from junction 12 of the M40, the main motorway link between London and Birmingham.
One of the last battles of the Civil War was fought in Middleton Cheney in May 1643, when the Parliamentary side was defeated. The site of the battle is now a small housing estate.
The Parish Church in Middleton Cheney is called All Saints and was built in the 14th century. It contains some of the finest Burne-Jones and William Morris stained glass in England. The church also has a rood canopy designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott.
